Clinical measures of ventilation and gas exchange (FEV1, FVC, DLCO) used as outcome endpoints after airway interventions.
Why it matters: It provides the hard outcome measure that shows whether an airway operation actually improved a patient's breathing.
For example, a patient blows as hard as they can into a tube and the machine records how much air they moved in the first second.
