Plain language
The web address a program sends its request to when it wants an AI model to answer.
As stated in the literature
A network-addressable service URL exposing a model or function; what sits behind it (model version, safety wrapper, routing) is generally opaque to the caller.
Also called: endpoints
Why it matters: Because everything behind the endpoint can change without notice, two identical requests sent months apart may not be hitting the same system at all.
For example, an app that summarizes emails sends each message to a model's endpoint and gets the summary back a second later.
