Definition
Plain language
A middleman program that every message has to pass through, so it can keep its own copy of the conversation.
As stated in the literature
Proxy sitting between agent harness and model API that logs each request/response before forwarding and refuses to forward what it cannot record, placing the trace outside the agent's writable filesystem.
Also called: gateways, logging gateway
Why it matters: Keeping the record on the other side of a middleman means the AI cannot reach the log it would need to alter, which is what makes the record trustworthy in the first place.
For example, if an assistant tries to send a request while the gateway's log file is unavailable, the gateway simply refuses to pass the message along rather than letting an unrecorded exchange happen.
