Definition
Plain language
A lab test that shows whether a specific protein is present in a sample.
As stated in the literature
Immunodetection of size-separated proteins after gel electrophoresis and membrane transfer; blot images are a frequent target of integrity sleuthing.
Also called: Western blots
Why it matters: Because the evidence is a photograph of bands, it is easy to duplicate or splice, which is why these images are among the most common findings in integrity investigations.
For example, a researcher runs a sample through a gel and photographs the dark bands that show a particular protein is present.
