Definition
Plain language
The short code that identifies a company's stock, like the letters on a price screen.
As stated in the literature
Exchange-assigned identifier for a traded instrument; in this study the only non-fabricated field in the fully synthetic dashboard condition.
Also called: ticker, stock symbol
Why it matters: A single real detail like a genuine ticker can make an otherwise fabricated display feel authentic, which is exactly why it deserves scrutiny.
For example, the letters that scroll across a financial news screen next to each price are ticker symbols identifying which company is being quoted.
