Definition

Plain language

Notes on general facts and techniques, as opposed to a diary of events.

As stated in the literature

A persisted store of generalized knowledge, rules, and reusable procedures distinct from event-level episodic records; in this agent it is a workspace file carried across context resets.

Also called: semantic memories

Why it matters: Compressing messy experience into reusable rules is what lets an agent carry a skill forward instead of rediscovering it from scratch every session.

For example, the line "throw while moving upward to add height" is semantic memory, distilled from many individual throws that are themselves recorded elsewhere.

Heard on the show

“And by contrast, when they remove the other clever pieces — the cross-step state, the semantic memory match — the attack success only ticks up a few points each.”
