OWASP

Definition

Plain language

A nonprofit that publishes widely used guidelines for web security.

As stated in the literature

The Open Web Application Security Project, which maintains standards and reference lists (such as the OWASP Top Ten) for software security.

Why it matters: Shared, well-maintained security guidance gives developers a common floor for defending against the most common real-world attacks.

For example, an engineer checks their web app against the OWASP Top Ten list to catch issues like SQL injection and broken authentication.

Heard on the show

“They cited the right OWASP standards.”
