Definition
Plain language
Open-source software that can steer and control the speed of certain cars.
As stated in the literature
Comma.ai's open-source ADAS stack; modified here to expose steering-direction, steering-percentage, target-speed, and duration commands to an external agent.
Why it matters: Because the code is open, researchers can hook their own systems into a real car's controls rather than having to build an entire driving stack from scratch.
For example, someone can install it on a supported car so the software holds the lane and keeps pace with traffic on a highway drive.
