Definition
Plain language
The numeric address that identifies a machine on the internet.
As stated in the literature
An Internet Protocol address identifying a network interface; hardcoded IPs in agent-issued network calls are a common exfiltration signal since they bypass DNS and domain allowlists.
Also called: IP addresses
Why it matters: Because raw addresses sidestep the name-based allowlists most organizations rely on, a hardcoded one in an agent's network call is a strong hint that something is trying to slip past the usual checks.
For example, instead of connecting to a recognizable name like example.com, a command might connect straight to 203.0.113.47, giving no hint about who owns the far end.
