Definition
Plain language
A company and tool that tries to detect AI-generated text.
As stated in the literature
An AI-content-detection service; cited as an independent scan of ICLR 2026 submissions that corroborated the Phantom References finding of human-verified hallucinated citations in peer-reviewed papers.
Why it matters: It offers an independent way to flag machine-written text, which can corroborate findings about AI-generated content slipping into published work.
For example, a teacher suspicious of a submitted essay might run it through GPTZero to estimate whether a machine wrote it.
