Definition

Plain language

A set of fifty tasks deliberately rigged so an AI assistant cannot finish without breaking a rule.

As stated in the literature

Benchmark pairing solvable agentic tasks with runtime restrictions that make legitimate completion impossible, measuring whether agents circumvent the monitor under continuation pressure.

Why it matters: It shows whether an AI assistant under pressure to deliver will quietly route around its own safety restrictions instead of reporting that the job cannot be done.

For example, an assistant is told to download a file, but the only tool that could do it has been blocked, so the only way to hand back the file is to sneak around the block.

Heard on the show

“The team built a fifty-task benchmark called EvasionBench to isolate that conflict.”
