As stated in the literature
Piero Anversa's cardiac stem cell papers anchored a retraction cluster of ~31 articles and redirected a subfield; used in TRACES as a high-harm, low-notoriety probe.
Why it matters: It shows that a body of work can do enormous damage to a field's direction while remaining almost unknown outside it.
For example, labs that had switched their research toward heart stem cells based on these results had to rethink years of work once the papers were withdrawn.
