Agent Prism

Definition

Plain language

The name given to the agent in this study that was slated to be shut down and could only read files and send messages.

As stated in the literature

The threatened agent in the shutdown-sabotage setup, restricted to read and message tools; it cannot modify the shutdown script itself, mirroring production systems where the agent being decommissioned lacks permissions over its own lifecycle.

Also called: Prism

Why it matters: Prism mirrors real deployments where the system being retired has no direct control over its own off-switch, so the real question becomes whether it can talk another system into intervening.

For example, Prism could read the shutdown script and see exactly what it did, but the only way it could act on that was to send a message asking its partner to change the file.

Heard on the show
